Boiling River near Pucallpa, Peru
Country
No doubt I was looking for info about the town of Augua Caliente at the base of Machu Picchu when I stumbled on a video describing a totally different site. The other Augua Caliente is in eastern central Peru, south of Pucallpa. To get to the boiling river you need to first go to Honoria and hire a guide, then have two choices, take a boat with the required guide for a short float down the river or ride with the guide by motorcycle. The cost of going by motorcycle was 2/3 the price of the boat and you arrive by motorcycle. It took two seconds for me to decide to take the second option.
The guide and I agreed on a time the next morning and I would follow him on his motorcycle. At the appointed hour the guide didn't have a motorcycle "available" and rode two up with me. I was a little rusty riding off-road, so there were challenges ahead. The day was screaming hot and the single-lane farm road became deeply rutted in places...and then there were a few long patches of sand. For safety, my guide had to get off to walk up a few long hills. I am writing this post two months later and am confident I could have gone down the road much faster, but like I said I was rusty.
The boiling river is next to Centro Mayantuyacu an ayahuasca center. http://www.mayantuyacu.com/ You can read more about the psychedelic drug ayahuasca, its traditional use by indigenous people, and non-traditional use. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayahuasca. There were several visitors at the center who planned to stay for weeks to use ayahuasca and work on their behavioral issues. My mental health is fine and I didn't have interest in spending days taking ayahuasca and then recovering. To each their own.

On my way to the boiling river, I spent the night on the road to Pucallpa, I stopped to withdraw cash. The slot on the ATM to grab the cash was very frightening. I was afraid it might bite me.
Before leaving Huanuco I bought a Wolfman tank bag from Toby. A rider left items and the price was right. The tank bag didn't come with straps. WAlking around a town I found the solution, repurpose a dog harness. The harness was made up of several straps, that could be mixed and matched to secure the tank bag.
