DAY 15 -FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER – You’ll be pleased to know my blog is fairly short today as, basically, I haven’t done anything! To be fair to me there  doesn't seem a lot do around Navia, except visit the sea to see naked men lying on the beach! And due to lack of interesting pics I've put a photo of the vast empty beach except for the naked man, but you have to spot him. It's like 'Where's Wally?' or in this case should it be 'Where's Willy?!!'

Where is everybody?  :-)

By the time I went out last night it was dark so I still couldn’t tell you much about the town other than that there was a reasonably good choice of restaurants and bars. The restaurant I chose was because one of the few things I understand with Spanish food is ‘ensalada sardinas’  or sardine salad and knowing I’d had very little greenery or omega 3 since I’ve been away, it was a no brainer!

Talking of fish, this morning I went out for a wander to check out the town in daylight, which I have to say was pretty uninspiring and being on an estuary, with the open sea visible in the distance, it was also the home to a small ship yard with further industrial units and cranes surrounding it; not the most picturesque town centre I’ve visited, that’s for sure! Anyway, as Ronnie Corbett used to say, “I digress”. What was I talking about? Oh yes, fish! I strolled out across the main bridge across the Navia estuary and near the bank on the other side was the biggest shoal of what I’m pretty sure were Salmon that I’ve ever seen! There were hundreds, if not, thousands of them just lazily waving their tails from side-to-side just to prevent the flow of the river from washing them back out to sea. I later googled it and apparently it’s something they have to do for a few days in order for their bodies to adapt from a salt-water to a freshwater environment. Once acclimatized they continue their journey upstream to their spawning grounds.

Fish half-way up on left, -  "You're all going the wrong way!" OR "Sorry, sorry I didn't realise it was a one-way street! :-)

Okay biology lesson over! Although I’d booked accommodation at the beginning and end of my impending Camino walk, I hadn’t booked anything in between and my guide book implied you could just walk and once in an en-route village, decide you’d had enough and simply find somewhere in that village to stay. I kept having nightmare visions of walking round said village being told by all Inn-Keepers, “Sorry mate we’re fully booked”, and having to walk on to the next village, and so on. Therefore, I’ve been sat in my hotel room all afternoon using my computer and phoning hostels directly in order to ensure I’m not consigned to the stables for the night! So I’m all booked up now and good to go! I just hope I’ve got my dates and hostels matched in the right order, otherwise things could get very interesting/stressful!
