Bad endings in Santiago

by admin as part of Mexico, Central and South America Omaha to Santiago.

My adventure ended in Santiago, Chile. My KLR was in bad shape, tires shot, both sprockets shot, chain stretched beyond saving, and etc. It was also very pavement-worn from being down so much, (darn)...01/24/02 THE TRIP ENDS FOR ME My adventure ended in Santiago, Chile.

Burkina Faso and Niger

by admin as part of Africa, North to South.

In the last six days I’ve ridden thirteen hundred miles that’s from Timbuktu in Mali to Dongondutchi in Niger crossing Burkina Faso along the way. So I’ve mainly seen life in this part of Africa form the seat of my motorcycle, which is an excellent way to observe life. It’s easy to tell if there is a market in the next town, often I’ll pass or see coming in the opposite direction dozens of; people carrying things on their heads, bicycles loaded up, carts being pulled by donkey or cows or cars with animals on the roofs.

Not much money

Just before the bridge over the mighty Zambesi, there's a campsite called "Jesus e Bom"; "Jesus is Good" in Portuguese. Now then, Jesus may well be very good indeed - who am I to judge - but his campsite is a shithole, so I decide to check into the air-conditioned $20 magnificence of the "Hotel Zambesi" instead.

Ooty

by Kevinvw as part of Around The World On A Honda Transalp.

We don’t think too much of Ooty itself but it’s the road leading to it that makes visiting the area worthwhile. The terraced tea plantations are definitely worth to see.

Terraced Tea Plantations

In Ooty, which is a highly elevated town, we feel cold again after a long time of warm temperatures. We find a nice spot on the lake, an abandoned guesthouse with a garden, where we want to set up our tent.

No.4.Hungary. Gateway to Eastern Europe.

by Simondo as part of The Road to Kathmandu- the comic strip -.

Thursday 18th August.

Rain. Bloody rain. 'Central Europe enjoys hot summers and cold winters' or so I'd been led to believe. Well, at least I was seeing the road stretching out East again albeit through a misted up visor.

The border crossed, I pressed on towards Budapest. I'd stay for a day or two. A boat ride up the Danube to the medieval village of Szentendre perhaps, then on to the vine growing regions and the Romanian border. Excellent.

Jomson Road

by Kevinvw as part of Around The World On A Honda Transalp.

Jomsom Road is the main road through the Annapurna National Park. We are told it’s fairly manageable by motorbike. After a nice breakfast, we leave for the National Park. The entrance to the Park is located in Beni, about 80km from Pokhara. Here, we refill the bike and have lunch because we were told that everything in the Park is more expensive. Short after entering the park we notice the road is not much better than the impossible road but the vistas are again beautiful and make it worthwhile. Occasionally we do see snow peaks up to 7 km high and we also see a large waterfall.
