May 4 Sabinanigo Spain - Saillagouse France 474 km Heading across North Spain in the foot hills of the Pyrenees planning to get to Deb & Alistars nr Perpignan for dinner.
Have seen loads of barley, peaches and pig units. Spain looks very different to F almost eastern europe looking, very industrial, a lot of subsistance agricultural. People look sad. Looks like a lot of civil money being spent on roading. Planned to ride back over the Pyrenees through Andorra. Now snowing and the higher we get the more snow.
Got to the Andorra France boarder 2300m. Police had a wee chat and strongly suggested we turn back to Spain and take a lower pass. Got back to the Andorra Spain boarder where customs wanted to know what Henk & Pia were smuggling out of the country in their top box. Back into Spain we were stopped at a roadblock by Police armed with Spanish AK 47 equivalants. After a bit of convincing they accepted that Pia & Fran weren't the dangerous criminals that they were trying to catch. As we rode on we got higher and higher, and colder and colder. Now snowing heavily. Grip warmers on the bikes were helping but still getting very cold hands.
Got to 1300m, snow was right across the road. Now really slippery. Time to stop. Went back a few km found warm hotel hot shower hot dinner and vin rouge.
