2006 July: Montana Revisited
I backtracked through Jasper and down to Montana to try again to ride the Road to the Sun and pickup some things at a friend's house in Montana. This marked the end of my northern tier and the beginning of the California coast ride.
I reluctantly retraced my path back to Jasper and through the Canadian Rockies. I didn't get to see much the first time through and I wanted to go back to Montana to ride the Road to the Sun and do a mail pickup in Helena. My first stop was in Prince George where I found a great place for lunch with free wifi. It's a new place, highly recommended. I stayed there several hours eating and catching up on the internet.
Going through national parks I wasn't sure what was more dangerous- animals or tourists.
The weather was better this time around, however.
And once again I crossed the continental divided, but this time I finally took a picture.
And after a night a a hostel in park the I was soon back in Montana and camped in Whitefish.
The next day I finally got to ride the Road to the Sun.
I had to stop and talk to this guy. It turned out he was a park ranger from the Delaware Water Gap where I often went for weekend rides from NYC.
Upon exiting the park I rewarded myself with homemade pie and Montana ice cream.
Then it was back on the road south through big sky country to Helena.
