Terra Incognita 2010/11 Canada to South America and back
So, finally on the road to fulfill a dream of travelling to South America via motorbikes. Oct 17 started with frost on the pumpkins and turned out to be a pretty decent day, with highs of 10 degrees Celcius. Our plan is to make as fast an exit out of the cold as possible, using I-15 as the main road from Calgary, thru Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, then on to California and leaving the U.S. at Tijuana. While this route has little to offer as far as sight-seeing goes, it avoids alot of inclement weather that can be experienced going over and thru the mountains.
Carol and I got split up at the border at Sweetgrass Montana. My experience was pleasant enough, with the border guard curious as to how I was given 6 months off to do this trip. Once again, being self employed has it's advantages. Carol on the other hand was hit with a barrage of questions as to how she was paying her bills for six months, how could someone unemployed have six months off,was she worried about coming back to Canada with no job, all very strange questions to Carol, who had to bite her tongue to avoid tearing a strip off the border guard. Carol, true to form, quizzed the guard as to the relevance of the questions. Well we made it to Great Falls.
