Admiring the Void

by admin as part of Destination Sunrise.

After my five hours journey from Ushguli to Lentekhi over the Zagaro pass, I realized I was quite exhausted and would not be able to ride my bike for a couple of days. Strong enough reason to continue driving further to Kutaisi and then Tbilisi... at least there would be many things to do in the capital while resting and stretching my sore muscles. I met Natalia again there and, when I had sort of recovered, we decided to spend a couple of days in Kazbegi region.Kazbegi is another valley in the High Caucasus but nothing to do with Svaneti in terms of accessibility.

by admin as part of Route 66.

No true traveller along 66 can avoid stopping at the "Here it is" signpost at Joseph City.Tradition has it that if this is your first time on 66 you have to ride the rabbit so swallow your pride and have your photo taken then hide it so nobody ever sees it.

The Plan

by mikehannan as part of The Elephant's Travels 2007 - 2008.

A Plan comes together......or so we thought!Making the decision to try and ride our bike around the world was hard work and, having gotten that bit of unpleasantness out of the way, we settled back to await the start of our adventure. A couple of weeks of reverie drifted by before the obvious became obvious: nothing would happen because we wished it, we needed to get some planning done! Once we got over the initial shock of deciding to go, the problem of planning seemed almost overwhelming.

28/5/05. Lome, Togo

Let joy be unconfined! At only the second time of asking (if you count the first six-day attempt as one) I am allowed into Togo. The icing on the tin hat is that my Togo visa actually expired five days ago.

A Gathering Storm

by admin as part of West Coast USA 2005.

A Gathering Storm
OK, so it’s a little melodramatic. But it ties in with the gathering of the personnel and equipment, and the clouds that we ran into….

Our actual departure date from Bowling Green isn’t until Tuesday the 2nd. But after my last day of work on Friday I couldn’t just sit around until Tuesday, now could I? So I fully packed the bike for a trial run down to meet Dad on his way up from GA. This way I could get some riding in, check how well I packed, etc.

Black Sea, Warm Heart

by mikehannan as part of The Elephant's Travels 2007 - 2008.

A trip to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast does not impress Mike and Jo with the state of development.7 – 9 April 08
.
We had planned to spend two days in the Bulgarian centre of Plovdiv, but early on the second day it started raining and kept raining for the next 48 hours. Despite a hotel room slightly smaller than a shoebox, we settled in to watch cable TV, read and wait. We ventured down to the bar only for beer and braved the weather outside only to eat.

Peru - over the mountainside

by admin as part of Mexico, Central and South America Omaha to Santiago.

A truck approached us. The driver jumped out and we quickly up-righted the bike and got it over to the side, so the truck could squeeze by. Frank sat down in the rain and said ‘Dale, move your bike over a little so the truck can get by’. I really didn’t have any room to move, so thought I would take it off the kickstand and just lean it a little to the right to give a couple more inches. As my foot touched the edge, it gave away. I was tumbling and sliding with my bike down the mountain...A truck approached us.

South Australia - The Festival State

by Kevinvw as part of Around The World On A Honda Transalp.

2438.JPG

At sunset we cross the state border with South Australia and spend another night on a rest area. In South Australia they seem less equipped and look less maintained. By the evening of the next day we finally see some other landscape than bush when we are driving between nice hills with beautiful views over several large salt lakes.

Starting out and background info

by admin as part of Ride to Aconcagua.

This is the first entry for a tale which will hopefully reach from just outside Chicago, Illinois, to Mendoza, Argentina, and Aconcagua.
At the moment I am at the US/Mexico border, staying in Edinburg, Tx. This proves to be a pretty reasonable town, with all the stores and supplies that you could need. This is the first entry for a tale which will hopefully reach from just outside Chicago, Illinois, to Mendoza, Argentina, and Aconcagua.
