South Australia - The Festival State
At sunset we cross the state border with South Australia and spend another night on a rest area. In South Australia they seem less equipped and look less maintained. By the evening of the next day we finally see some other landscape than bush when we are driving between nice hills with beautiful views over several large salt lakes.
Different Scenery in South Australia
For the first time in Australia, it is really cold and there is a lot of wind, which makes it hard setting up our tent in the evening. Also in the morning, it is very cold and we long for a warming afternoon sun. An hour later we arrive in Port Augusta, on the southern coast of Australia, but we have no time to look around as we want to reach Broken Hill the same day. We pass Peterborough, a very nice village built in an "American-style Saloon'.

Just outside the village we take a lunch break where we are surrounded by some exceptionally friendly birds and they are even eating out of the palms of our hands.
