1st 3 days ( Readers Digest Version
Sorry to everyone who my blog updates - i have been a little remiss in my updates - I will try to give a brief synopsis of the 1st 3 days - If you feel you need a more of a long winded blah blah blah blog report please see Jeff's blog - the link can be found in my introduction -DAY 1 Edmonton to High River Alberta
- left work yesterday with plans to return in two months -
Did my final packing and finished that up around 4:00 am this morning - had to rearrange almost everything but luckily turns out my wife is quite a good organizer - whether I will be able to duplicate her fine work on the road will have to be seen.
With the packing complete and the plan to meet up with Alfred and Jeff at Jeff's place I said my good byes to my lovely wife, who i will miss everyday I am away and my son, who I will also miss but maybe every other day : and headed south to beautiful Beaumont
Met up with Alfred and Jeff at Jeff's place for a panned 9:00 am departure and believe it or now we were pretty much on schedule. After a couple of last minute checks and repairs and final good byes it was time to the road.
KLR Odometer reading Day (15838.4kms)
we decided our final destination for the 1st day with be the lovely town of High River - an estimated 400kms - and to stay with Holly Raaphorst, aka Jeff's sister and Alfred's daughter. Thanks Holly for the place to sleep and the walk around pointing out some of the area that suffered flood damage a couple of years back.
the trip to,high river was pretty uneventful -with a stop,at Wood buffalo Provincial park for some lunch and some photo's. it was all in all a pretty relaxing trip with mostly warm and sunny throughout the day.
We did learn Jeffery may have to find new employment when he returns so I have been helping him prepare for suitable positions by asking the right questions
Lesson of the Day
I did learn that the KLR needs to be switched to reserve at 374kms . Note to self- when switching the fuel petcok turn turn to the right(reserve), no to the right, (off)
or you might end up on the roadside scratching your head - Thanks Alfred for noticing this so quickly and with the correction made we were back on our way .
KLR Odometer reading Start of Day 2(16287.5)
DAY 2 High River AB to Hungry Horse Montana ( about 8 hours)
Started out around 7;30 - and It started raining shortly there after!out ! Had real problems with the visor fogging up so was forced to pull over and have Jeff and Alfred stop several times as well - not an ideal start but am sure we will see more bad weather throughout the trip so better figure it out!
The weather did improve as we neared Waterton Provincial Park but never really warmed up! park Beautiful Scenery on the way to the park but unfortunately all my electronics were on the blink, not going to blame the fact that I cheaped out yet but starting to think knock-offs may not be the way to go - in any case no helmet shots!
But was able to capture a couple of shots of what the park had to offer -
Jeff apparently had something in his eye when I took this picture
Lesson of the day - If there is no picture it didnt happen!
Heard rumors that Jeff mentioned I may have dropped the KLR but without proof I just dont remember the incident at all - :) Getting old has some advantages -
Day 3 Hungry Horse, Montana to Kooskia Idaho
Ooops Didnt get the start odometer reading
So far the highlight of the trip - and much to Jeff's ghigrin - it was brought to you by the Harley Davidson Tour Book 2015! So from Jeff to HD a Big Thank you!
Clearwater National Forest - 100 miles of twisting roads - with a speed limit of 65 miles per hour until we moved into idao where the speed limit dropped to 50mph.
The roads appeared to have been recently paved and I do not think we had one bad section for the whole day!
More good news no bikes down - the only issue today was loose chains on the versey and the v-strom and a burnt out driving light - all fixed out front of the Walmart in Missoula Montana.
We made it to Kooskia fairly late in the day and as usually Jeff found the nicest hotel in town.
We did confirm they had wifi but we didnt confirm it would work in the room - so Jeff - who is more dedicated to his blog readers then i went out in serch of a stronger signal
Lesson of the Day - It is good to see Jeffery eat crow - the tour book proves good things can come out of Milwaukee. If you zoom in you may be able to see what he is reading - a little hint he will never admit it!
Thats a wrap for now - Tomorrow may be a rain day so will try to catch up then - see if i have any good pictures of Jeff to post - maybe those sexy running shorts will make an appearance....
