Sept 17 - Day 6
From La Pine Oregon to Diamond Lake Oregon
Short and sweetSo today we again woke to the rain - but it was also cold - we decided to gear up and do the 100kms to Crater Lake and see if our luck changed!
So after a quick detour to look for some groceries and snacks we were off - it didnt get any better for the full 1.5 hours it took to make the trip.
Made it to the summit and the with the fog you couldnt see any f the view the area is known for - plus it was blowing and I think we even saw some snow - back down we headed with a plan to find a place to honker down for the day and return tomorrow when the temperatures are expect to rise to 70 F.
Luckily, with information we got from a fellow traveler a couple of days earlier, we headed for the Diamond Lake Resort - also since it was my turn to pay for the hotel Jeff felt a 'Resort' sounded like a good plan. Turns out not to be too bad except it was onlY 11:30 so there was no check-in until 2:00 at the earliest - so off for another meal and finally Jeff wasn't ready to go 10 minutes before me so I relaxed and digested my food!
After lunch sat in the Lobby where Jeff planned out more of our route with the help of another biker we were given several new destinations in northern California that have been added to our route - Chandelier Tree - Avenue Of The Giants - Lost Coast - the trip distance seems to have stretched to something near 20,000kms
Had to make a couple of minor reports on the KLR - resulted from the fall that never happened - Alfred helped with the repairs whiles Jeff took a picture - may appear in his blog tomorrow
Not many photo ops today so here is a couple shots at the resort - which was built in 1922 and then renovated in 1957
