Leaving the USA To Help

I recently left Alaska to Help with the relief efforts in Nepal. Below is a short account of the feel over there. As you know from my last entry I wanted to help out after the horrifying earthquakes which shook Nepal. I decided that making a post was not enough. I left the bike with a friend and headed to Asia to help the amazing people of Nepal. I took off from Anchorage and woke up in Katmandu international Airport (KTM). I spent 2 weeks in the mountain helping the small villages in the Khumbu Valley which was one of the hardest hit area. Going to the town of Langtang I was horrified at the scene of destruction and complete obliteration of the once charming trekking destination. Only one building was left standing after and it was hit by both an avalanche in addition to several large mudslides. The need for supplies in this area is huge. Now with the monsoon the already weak ground is giving way leading to even more devastation. I was humbled by the response that I got from my last post which let to 100 yards of donated fleece fabric
. I was able to get it directly to families so that they could keep warm during the monsoon. However If you are still interested in donating please reach out. throughout the WMA Relief Fund I have the connections to bring get supplies over to these desperate villages. Despite the news most are not aware of just how large this quake was. I found an infographic the visualizes just how large a 7.2 earthquake is. The nepal earthquake was 32 times as large as a 6.2 quake. Amazing right? I am now back in Alaska for the summer and hope to write again soon.
