On The Road Again
Having been back on the road for nearly a month everything is getting back to the way it should be. The air is warm, the breeze cool and the road stretching into the sunset. I have been very excited for this trip for a very, very, very long time. For the past few weeks we have been winding our way down through British Columbia in the Canadian Rockies near Banff and Jasper. This stunning landscape is made grander by the intense and serene blueish green of the Athabaskan River which plunges thousands of feet in elevation rushing towards the bustling city of Calgary. When we reached the city, I was blown away by the sheer growth over the past decade. Nearly 20 years ago, I worked as a safety director down in the area that is now known as the oil sands. At that time it was a small operation. However it was a reminder of how thankful I am that that part of my life is behind me. We stayed in the city for 4 nights. I wanted my daughter to experience the city and all that it had to offer. I had almost forgotten what it was like to live in such a populated area.
Just as it was beginning to become normal I know that it was time to leave. We packed up got on the bike and headed south. The next stop was glacier National Park. This is one of my favorite places on earth. The dramatic walls of rock and steep roads are a bikers dream. However the traffic was not. I don't understand why so many people were there. It killed the atmosphere. However we spent a full week in the park. On the third day I taught my daughter how to fish. It was a Wonderfull experience, one that I hope she never forgets. I also wanted her to know because I plan to do al bunch of fishing over the next couple of years. My dream since I was a kid was to fish in the icy waters of Patagonia. When we reach the southern waters I plan to realize that dream and to experience that with my daughter.
