The Black sea
Country
Crossed Bulgaria via the Shipka pass, a really nice road, north side covered in patches of loose gravel from poor pothole repairs which slightly spoils the flow. Stopped at the monument of freedom which commemorates the Bulgarian forces holding off the Turks at the pass.
We missed out on riding up to Buzludzha as the road we tried from the freedom monument turned into sand and gravel so we turned round, might be better up the switchbacks from the South?
South side of the pass was great, much better road surface
Stopped in Kazanlak to see the 2000 year old Thracian tomb, slightly disappointed that you can't see the real thing as it's covered over, only a recreation is accessible.
We were missing the sea so took a direct route to the coast at Burgas then headed down the coast. Burgas is very built up with high rises as far as you can see. Plenty of remote looking bits of coast on the way South of there
After forty days and 3600 miles we've reached the Black sea right in the South of Bulgaria at Ahtopol. This feels like the half way point of the trip, from now on we'll be generally heading West and North towards home. A swim in the sea first
