ON OUR WAY
The Great State of Texas Lynn, my wife, and I are both retired. We have decided that we would commence this rtw project in phases. She is a retired nurse. I retired from the Army, combination of active duty and national guard, and the Colorado District Court bench. We are two up on a 1000cc V Strom.
The primary purpose of the blog is to keep our family informed of our conditon and location. Also, I found HU blogs to be helpful in planning. For the benefit of other travelers, I will provide some information about road conditions, routes, weather, and other travel concerns.
We left Fort Morgan, Colorado, on April 5, 2008, for Mexico. Mexico, besides wanting to see it, is Phase I. It is a 35 day shake down.
We have arrived, April 7, 2008, in Coleman, Texas. We left in 39 degree weather and now it is in the upper 70s. We will be sending home our winter clothing.
Our route has included Highway 50, the "Loneliest Highway in the US", which includes the Santa Fe Trail, near Lamar, CO. In Texas we drove on Scenic Byway Highway 207, outside Amarillo, Texas.
Our most exciting event was in Guthrie, Texas. While gasing up this gentleman asked us where we were going. He sure looked familar. He shook my hand and introduced himself as Kyle Petty. Being the big NASCAR fan, I recognized him. He was riding a ultra classic Harley. His partner, Matt Kenseth, #17, on a 2003 ultra classic, and a crew member from #21, on a Goldwing, heading to the next race.
From Coleman, we will continue on 84 in the direction of Austin, Texas. We expect to cross the border at McAllen, Texas.
We are doing fine Kids.
