Update
We made it to Ripley for the Horizons Unlimited meeting. It is a meeting dedicated to world motorcycle travelers. Many of them have sold everything and just live out of their bikes as they circle the globe. They had a number of interesting classes. 90 percent of them were camping out in the rain. I chose to battled a queen bed and a 36 inch flat screen TV.
Sue and Graham came done and we spent the evening together. They traveled from England, last year, to ride from Alaska to Argentina. We rode with them to South America. Graham wants to do Africa next. Sue just doesn't know it yet.
After the HU meeting, we went on to Stafford Upon Avon. Their most noted son gave us all fits in high school - Shakespeare.
We also visited Blenheim Palace. The ground and money to build Blenheim Palace were awarded to Duke John Churchill, by Queen Anne, for defeating the French at Blenheim in 1704. She was excited to bring an end to French expansionism under King Louie. 100,000 men battled. Over half were killed or wounded. Winston Churchill was born at the Palace. Some of the best pictures are in the bathrooms.
Here are ours.
This is the victory monument.
Then it was off to Winchester to visit their famous Cathedral. Jane Austin, with other famous people, are buried under the floors and in the walls. A plaque was recently established for Jane Austin. Her original grave, in the floor of the Cathedral, is still unmarked.
We headed back to France on an overnight ferry. It was a nice trip. We watched them load 30 to 40 loaded 18 wheelers, in addition to 50 to 80 cars, trailers, and motor homes.
We arrived in Angers, France. We were greeted by this huge fortress from the 12 century. It had 18 turrets. Streets and homes still use the walls for support and home foundations.
Our hotel view of Angers.
We are now in Bergerac, France (June 29, 2011).
