Update
Bad internet service. We are currently in Fatima, Portugal. We arrived in Bergerac, France. It is the home of Cyrano de Bergerac. A fictional character. It was the dividing line between France and England during the 100 Years War. The dividing line was the River Dordogne.
We moved on to Loiu, Spain. This unique town, which was initially unknown to us, is Basque country. They were having a festival at which we had a great time at. Great Basque food and loud music. It was an overnight stay before Santiago de Compostela.
We continued down the coast of northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela. The road had many tunnels and incredibly high viaducts. Some were around 3000 feet above the ground. The winds played havoc as we crossed them.
Santiago is the home of the third most visited pilgrimage site. The remains of Saint James was discovered in Santiago, in 813 AD. He was buried there after being beheaded in Jerusalem. He was symbolic in the defeat of the Muslim Moors. The Cathedral was started in 813 AD completed in 1225. Saint James tomb is inside. There were many people who walked the 500 mile trail from the Pyrenees. There are many routes with some starting in Rothenburg, Germany. The symbol for the walk is a clam shell.
We are now in Fatima, Portugal.
