We headed to Strasbourg, France. This is the home of the famous Cathedral of Notre Dame. It was the tallest edifice building in Christendom until the 19th century. You cannot do the Cathedral justice with the camera because of its size. Inside the Cathedral is an astrological clock, that still works, from the 16th century. The Cathedral was started in 1000 AD. The main structure was completed in the 1200s.

It is the home of the European Union Parliament and Human Rights Court.

Next to the Cathedral is the Palace Rohan. This was the main housing for the bishops in the 1700s. Marie Antoinette dined with King Louie the XVI, before their marriage, in the Palace.

We then took a boat around the Strasbourg moat. It was an enjoyable ride. You have to pass through 2 locks.

This structure doubled as a fort and then a prison. The tower was used to retrain prisoners heading to the gallows. Sounds like something that Mike Boone would do.

The tour guide told us a couple of stories about harsh punishment in those days. The executioner was sentenced to death for taking the Lord's name in vain. Additional, before execution the tongue was cut out. They took pity on him, due to his honorable service, and just executed him. Then there was the young boy who tried to burn his mother's hair. He started a whole new trend in punishment. They felt sorry for him so they gave him a last meal of bread and wine. Then they executed him.
Tomorrow, we leave for Blois (June 13).
