Kenya
Travels in KenyaLeft Niavasha with good intention of spending the night in Nairobi so took the old road. Not the views but a nice ride until 18km from Nairobi three and a half hours later and just headed on towards Mombassa. Past the airport on a new dual carraigeway worse surface than anything back home to the Alti River turn off for the border and a great long straight two lane road to the Tanzania border, about 70 miles of brilliant tarmac.
Got to the border and hordes of trinket sellers descended, say no to one another comes along. Got rid of them and went to customs, the man was mistified by the airports use of the carnet and put it right for me, no charge and 5 minutes. off to customs, 5 minutes and off to Tanzania. Went even easier 5 mins and off I went.
2 bars on the fuel gauge, 120 km to Arusha need some fuel. Fantastic new road with a few deviations for bridges being built, so these bits were rough, up and down and rocky, couple of bottom clenching moments but made it. Hate it when feet cant touch down, just have to gun it and pray. Fuel light came on 30k to go, first fuel stop in Arusha 31km later, thank goodness for inaccurate electronics. Fueled up gps stopped, its dead so had to find camp from memory' got here to find out it is party night and some of the young ladies offering things are as young looking as my grandchildren. Moved my gear away to the furthest corner and only heard the music a couple of times up till it finished at 7am.
Sunday and decided to head out and ride to mounts Meru and Kilamanjaro only to get there and see clouds. Problem with the boat on the lake so cruise off and heading down the roards Dar-es-salaam tomorrow. May see the mountain then who knows. Roads were fine today even if only 140k except for the long horned Masia cows who wander at will. 8 police road blocks and not stopped at one.
Problem with tomorrow is I have not planned this route so will be hit and miss. Must remember to take spare petrol in the can though.
