Francistown, Botswana
Where next?Francistown,
Booked here for three nights of luxury, need to sleep you see. Great place even if pricey, tried to contact Stella but in Gabs so will try again later, went to the museum and the lovely lady remembered me from my last visit, bike may have helped.
First though need front tyre changed as it is down to 2mm. Having a chat to general manager of the hotel, Ian, who rides were discussing other bikes going through and how they were all BMW too big or KTM unreliable. Funny as seen three KTMs only and they were all sat at the side of the road dead, BMW boys complaining about weight and size even the 800s. Only seen one Yamaha and that was Johns 1200 Super Tenere.
Anyway back to me, he suggested a bloke who had helped him out and rode but hard to find. He rang another friend Clyde who rang another man who with some blackmail agreed to do the tyre change. Given directions and went to Monarch Engineering. Nice man called Breddan Gibson, does engineering, regrinds cranks on lorries. Wheel off and he sends one of his employees off to get it done with clear instructions about rotation directions and went and sat in his office had a drink. Chat with him and then his wife he is into bikes and wants to set up a touring company, likes the Yamaha but never ridden one.
Job done and he took it for a ride to make sure nothing fell off and came back, asked how much he said no nothing, enjoy the rest of your ride. He then drove off to do a job elsewhere.
On the bike, visited where the folks are laid to rest (took a picture MNQ)
remembered the camera, went past the folks old house, now a guest house and unrecognizable thought about the club but gave it a miss.
Went shopping, no mangoes?? This is Africa and then for a blast down the old Gabs road, no police I saw and great to ride with no weight attached seemed to fly, took bends and corners like a new bike. Need to ditch everything, only way to do that is Joburg, but have a new plan, involves another 5000Km but not sure as bike needs some TLC after the last 7000Km, might have to go see my sister, take bike apart-ish, give it a good service and look after then head off again. That is 500Km away.
The 300km straight road near the elephant (sorry did not get too close)
Vee, can I service my bike at your place please and then depart again leaving a few bits and pieces behind in Richards garage?
There again oil was changed at 4000 so could do Namibia and back to Joburg, looks more likely. Think about it tonight.
This was the first bath I found in Africa that worked, plug and all, heaven, strange what floats ones boat.
