Jo'burg

Having a doss and thinking about the bikeFrancistown/South Africa.

Decided as I have 9750 km on bike to head for Jo’Burg and service it, needs a good clean as well and as she has been good to me she deserves a bit of TLC. Will do Namibia and Cape later.
Headed off at about 9 for the border, building a new road to Gabs so the old one is a bit worn, rode out with half a tank of petrol, and pulled in to fill up after 50km so I could get to Martins Drift on the not so green Limpopo. Getting the stand to work on the lack of camber is a pain over here, Yamaha need to look at this one, side stand down, bike topples off it to right. Ended up parked across parking bays facing the way I had come to keep it upright. Customs blokes thought it really funny; I was on the verge of leaving it in the Limpopo. Customs and Immigration went well on both sides, Botswana are happy to give me another visa for a month later and South Africa only gave me three months but will extend it or give me another three months if I leave and return. So, all should be good.
Had to take a picture of a Zimbabwean who was sitting on the bike when I got back to it, at least it was all there but no way to send it to him. Have to feel sorry for them, especially this one, no more than 18 and bullet hole scars in both legs still pink. He was off to get water to drink from the Limpopo River when he decided he liked the Yamaha.
Left the border at 2-00am and started to get excited at the sight of hills, rode for two hours along some bendy roads that were no problem at 110km per hour, very gentle but the scenery is picking up. Ended up in a town called Modimolle, not where I thought I was going, should try map reading and not just going on the nice roads, could have done it in half the time along one main road, there you go. Only a few miles from main route into Jo’burg 300km away. Must be another route down through the towns into the West of the conurbation of Jo’burg/Pretoria. Will visit the museum/tourist information tomorrow and see if they can shed any light. No campsites or B&Bs for 150km (need to get the Garmin looked at in Jo’burg)S must be the longest distance so far, does not make sense, past experience has shown loads. But lying on a bed now typing this, been for a walk through town, had a bite and not been mugged so all is good.
Guess it should be Roodeporte tomorrow, be good to fit the spares off the bike and onto it again cutting down the weight I am carrying, much nicer in Francistown when I had ditched everything and just rode the bike.
Spent one day doing nothing, next day went to sort out gps, found Garmin without the GPS, My 9 year old GPS is out of warranty so purchased a new one with a very good discount. Will fit it tomorrow.
