Saturday March 28th
Well gained some more hours due to time zones.Saturday 28th
Would appear the USA had education problems as well.
Great got up early and packed, went to hand in keys but no one about or letterbox to leave them in. Was 6 o'clock on my watch but only 5 due another time zone. Very cold again, had on everything including the waterproofs. Stopped to fill up and decided to have a coffee and breakfast as it was so early, to early for the meteor crater which opened at 6 30 miles away. Headed off at 7 down some old bits of 66, one a dead end after 5 miles. Onto Route 40 and ahead was a mountain.
Not sure if a giant bird perched on top of it or lots of little ones or even snow, but it was very white with streaks of white running down hill. As it was East facing and received sun light every day I am going with birds warming themselves up.
Strange interstate, they have white lines close together and between cats eyes, only the cats eyes are sunk into there own individual trench as long as the white line and a couple of inches deep. Makes overtakes very interesting as your wheels slide into the trench and then bounce over the cats eye. Definite heart in mouth time.
Arrived at the Meteor crater site and paid my dollars. I sat and just looked at it, it was/is vast, a mile in diameter and god knows how deep, although the brochure does probably say. Spent 4 hours wandering around it and looking at the exhibits.
Left at one and headed off again for Flagstaff via some old 66 again, across the slopes of the white mountain. Warmed up by now to a mere 70 degrees F. Found a motel and moved everything in before heading off to a museum. Great little place but with a real Western Steam Train, type Butch and Sundance held up.
Had dinner and counted the number of carriages on trains here, 120 pulled by 4 engines, each carriage had 2 containers stacked on them, 240 containers. Reason was the man at the museum was telling me a person was walking down the line with headphones in when the train ran him down from behind, you can feel the trains when you ride a Harley down the road, how they did not notice it, no idea. So now its not just do not walk across roads with music playing.
After dinner, met some Canadian riders and was chatting, said I was going to have a day off and head out to the Grand Canyon Monday. They asked if I would like to join them at 8 tomorrow, guess I can have Monday off and see the Canyon tomorrow.
