4 Mbeya

Life in MbeyaMbeya, I think Thursday the 17th. Blew it agaain today, walked past a guide offering walks up to Ngozi peak, 2620m town at half that. payed up and joined a group of an American and German lad, german and 2 french girls with a Rasterfarian guide. Got on one of the local buses that has been trying to kill me, half hour later got off and did a 4k walk to the base and then the 1000m footpath up, ridges, edges, scrambles through dense jungle over rotten trees, no ropes just vines and roots, paths 1 foot wide and hundred foot drops either side. Was totally worn out, thanks to the youngsters in gap years and just finished uni for the support and understanding, got to the top of the volcanic rim and there 200 m below was a crater lake the shape of Africa. Have to admit the 3 girls and I stayed at the top while the boys scrambled down to the water.
Sat chatting for an hour until the lads reappeared and set off down again, harder than going up and me in my plastic crocs. Left at ten and got back at eight one hell of a long day. Have to say all the people were great, 2 French girls are off to see a tea plantation tomorrow and asked me along, sorry Zambia another day. Tomorrow night is a Reggea night and as there are a lot of Rasterfarians, it is after all an African religion in the area and the man second only to Bob Marley is doing a live show for FREE guess Zambia can wait 2 days. So once again no motorcycling but there you go.... Life really is good at the moment.
