Woke up early and packed then breakfast and off at 7. Headed down the final bit of the Cedarburg all on tarmac for about 20km across another Olifants River, (that’s 3 I know of now, must have been masses of elephants to name half the rivers after them, guess another good job the human race has done to nature, not an elephant to be seen near Olifants River any more) and then a chilly ride to Graafwater , turn left to Elandsbaai and expected some dirt but new tarmac and they were repairing the potholes. Nice long ride down the coast, about 20km having to avoid suicidal tortoises crossing the road. Figured if I hit one, he/she would win and I would have an off machine incident or whatever they are now termed. As I was riding along, I put the scenery to an old song,
Scrub to the left of me,
Dunes to the right,
Here I am,
Stuck with no scenery to see.
Just like the Camber road with no towns and stretched out including the bends which were longer and smoother. You know the sea is there but you cannot see it. Warmed up a bit by now and undid the vents on the jacket to allow airflow through.
Turned off to St Helena Bay to see the Da Gama memorial, where the man landed and discovered new territory, wonder what the locals made of him? Not all that impressive, not sure what I was expecting but a bit more than stone pillars, so got on the bike and headed back to Paternoster via Vredenburg. All tarmac although the map shows gravel. Headed for the campsite, 3-4km down a sandy road, looked grim, very, very basic so decided to go find a B and B, got one right by the beach. Booked in parked up and went for a walk on an almost empty beach and had a paddle, sun burnt nose in 30 minutes of walking even with factor 50.
+SOME ROBUST OR IS THAT ROTUND OR PORTLY? CHAP ON THE BEACH.

then round the village, not big enough for a town, very pleasant, quiet and seaside-ish. Even have ice-cream.

Can not wait for the sunset as the sun heads for America.
