Highway 1 the muts nuts

Sunday 19th April
I was awake at 5 this morning so made use of being awake early and managed to get on the Internet and check emails and FB. Went back to sleep and we both slept until about 9:45. This free wifi at motels is really hit and miss as to wether it's useable or not. We are really getting a bit fed up with having to go to Mac Donald's to book Motels when we arrive in town, Starbucks is Ok but harder to find.
Highway 1 /101 North along the Pacific coast is by far the best road I have ever ridden I thought the section through the Big Sur was fantastic and then there is the section from Fort Bragg to Crescent City 220 miles of pure ecstasy on a motorcycle. With a few miles of freeway thrown in, but even the freeway was scenic and curvy. Twice we managed to turn off the freeway and continue through the curvy undulating roads of Redwood forests, in places it was almost like driving at night it was so dark especially with sunglasses on and a bug splattered visor, the stroboscopic effect of the sun shining through the trees made it difficult to follow the road at times. Even on a big fully laden adventure bike it was great fun I doubt I could of had any more fun on a sports bike.
When you are close to the coast it's cool and misty some times a little to cool and misty as the road drifts inland the temperature rises and as we approached Leggett we had to stop and strip a few layers off. At Leggett we road through a large redwood tree it cost us $3 for the privilege. The road from Fort Bragg to Leggett was the best bit. We never did find the unpaved road that Is shown on our map but who cares it was a great days riding. North California is just fantastic in so many ways and it also reminds us of good old Blighty with its greenery.
We were picking up a few supplies and we were asked the usual questions about where we are from etc. and the person asking the questions said I would love to go to England it's supposed to be very green. We both looked at her and said its a lot like your forest hear in places but colder.
Second service is due so will need to go in search of a BMW dealer soon.

Monday 20th April
Oregon
Very cold, windy and misty on the coast this morning as we left California, after about 50 miles we decided to head in land as we were getting to cold. We had no map for Oregon and had to try and find a road that would take us inland relying on the sat nav. I found a road that looked like it was heading in the right direction but had to zoom right in on the sat nav to see it so it was difficult to tell exactly where it went, but who cares there's no rush. Within 2 miles it was noticeably warmer and within 10miles I was getting warm. The road was a little bumpy but very scenic and twisty as we wound our way along side the rogue river. I lost count how many times we crossed over, then the road just ran out. We turned around and tried a couple of turnings but they went nowhere as well. We did find a couple of dirt roads but being low on fuel and absolutely no idea where we were we decided to head back the way we came. A total detour of 75miles, worth every single one of them. Thankfully by the time we had got back to where we started the sun had cleared away the mist so it was a little warmer on the coast, we are now in a small town called Reedsport.
