Good bye USA

Wednesday 28th July
95 deg F today not quite as humid, we took a run down to the freight yard to I make sure I had the correct address. Later we went in search of a laundrette. Even washed my motorcycle jacket. Mind you 27850miles of dead insects I think it needed it. From there we went for a steak in the 10 minutes it took to get there my jacket had dried. After stuffing our faces at the long horn steak house it was back to the hotel to decide what we are going to bring back, what will be going back with the bike and what will be going in the bin. It feels quite strange getting ready to go home it only seems like last week we were in Florida wondering where to go next. It's been a fantastic trip and we have met some great people and made lots of new friends that hopefully we will get to meet again.

Thursday 29th July
Hot and humid again we set off to drop my bike at the freight yard. They did not fill me with any confidence especially when he said this is the first time I've done this and our manager who normally deals with this type of cargo is not in, he did not seem to know what paperwork was what and what he needed. Well it's in the their hands now, nothing more I can do. We walked nearly a mile in the backing sun with our luggage to the train station where we had to wait an hour for the train. Once in NYC we took a cab to Gary and Cindy's apartment building and left our luggage with the doorman as they would not be back till the evening. As it was lunch time we stopped off for a spot of lunch before walking to the Empire State Building where we spent an absolute fortune to stand in a queue of people waiting to do exactly the same and once you get to the top it was heaving with people jostling for position for the perfect selfie waving their selfie sticks around totally oblivious of anyone else. Then you had to queue again for the lift to take you back down. We then walked back to their apartment building and by the time we arrived thankfully Cindy had finished work and was back home, my cousin Gary arrived a while later as he had been away working. Later in the evening we all went out for a curry at East village. It was still very warm and humid and we got our first taste of the NYC bus service. The curry was pretty good and reminded me of an up and coming curry night shortly after I return to England. You just can't beet a good old English curry. We were then taken to an Italian bakers to try a cannoli feeling very fat we took a cab home. The traffic was less than rush hour but still totally manic.

Friday 30th July
Still very hot and humid today but a little overcast when we set off with Gary for a trip on the subway. Even though it was a little cooler today the subway was hotter than hell. It seemed like forever and longer waiting for a train. Our first stop was ground zero. From there we walked to the south side seaport for our boat trip around the Statue of Liberty. Gary had more sense and returned home leaving us to stand queuing for hours again. My idea of hell. On the walk back to the station the heavens let rip and we got soaked but it felt good to cool down a little.
But we were soon melting in the subway again, apparently it gets to over 106F down there and very very humid. The walk from the train I managed to get us a little lost and we had to stop in a Starbucks for a coffee and some wifi so I could check on google maps where we were, it turned out we were not far off course. Once back we went out for a really nice Thai meal about a 10 block walk from Gary's place. New York is a absolutely mental place, not somewhere I would choose to visit again, it's been great to have the local knowledge from Gary and Cindy especially Gary showing us around on the busses and subway. I know you should never say never, but New York never again for me. Now we know the trip is over and we are checked in online I can't wait to get home. To see my Mum, Family and Friends. Looking forward to some good old British nosh and a warm beer in the pub. We are not looking forward to the subway to JFK this morning, but it's a necessary evil.
So it's good bye USA.
A big thanks to everyone we met along the way for their help, advice, hospitality and friendship you all made the trip even more memorable.
