The Magpie Rally
Country

Friday 20th Nov.
Got woken up early by strong winds and a shaking caravan. Also the Goldwing  owners leaving at intervals and as each one left they would sound their horns (wtf). So I was on the road by 8 again. Took a shortcut through on some very scenic gravel roads and had no problem from the wind until I hit the inland scenic route, the wind was bitter cold and seeing as I was heading towards a bike rally and had not seen any other bikes on the road I was wondering if they knew something I didn't. It was really difficult keeping the bike in a straight line and cornering was not to much fun either. the sudden gusts would blow you across the road nearly off the road sometimes. Made it to the rally only stop was at a supermarket to get some supplies for the weekend. While in the supermarket it started to chuck it down but thankfully it was only a short shower and had all but stopped by the time I arrived at the campsite which was surrounded by trees so the wind was not to big a problem and by the time I had put my tent up the sun was out in full force. I was conveniently pitched next to a bunch of complete party animals who invited me in to their awning to shelter from the sun, I remained there until about 3 in the morning only leaving to visit the bar to get more Alcohol as I had finished all that I had brought with me.
The organising club had supplied copious amounts of fire wood and cut up steel drums for burners and was kept burning all weekend. So we were never to cold even at night.

Saturday 21st Nov
Woke up to the sound of rain which was a good excuse to stay in my tent. I lay there until I had no choice to get up. And when i did get up It was not long before I was back in my tent I had stuffed my face with a white bait fritter and a bacon sandwich and felt a little better but still needed to lie down. I think I spent most of the day horizontal and only got up when it became to hot in the tent, thankfully that was quite late in the day as my tent was nicely shaded by the trees in the morning and it never really brightened up for long so whenever the sun went down I was back in my tent for another lie down. I spent the rest of the day and night drinking mainly water and relaxing by the fire amongst good company with music in the background from the bands. I also got to learn some KiWi slang. The strangest being and the most memorable is " I like to drink piss"  Meaning I like to drink Alcohol. It was another good night and I resisted the many offers of a hair of the dog and enjoyed watching everyone else getting drunk. Hopefully I have a good route planned thanks to more tips and advice from everyone, so an early night was had. Went to sleep listening to the music and woke up to the sudden silence when the band stopped. Soon went back to sleep though.
What a great weekend made all the better by pitching my tent next to these guy's. Thanks to you all and hope I get to see you all again.

Sunday 22nd Nov
Sunny but windy start to the day. Packed up and on the road by about 9:30
Stopped off down the road for breakfast in Geraldine and took a tour around the Vintage Car & Machinery Museum.
Set off to Wanaka on what was to be another cold windy but sunny ride. Thankfully not as windy as the ride to Winchester.
Checked in at a backpackers for a warm bed and to get some laundry done. There is also a curry house just around the corner, so no prizes in guessing what i'm eating tonight.
