Washington state
Tuesday 21st April
Despite it being cold wet and windy it was still a very enjoyable ride to Washington. We have found a cheap Motel at Ilwaco and only have a short ride to Seattle tomorrow. The bike is booked in for its second service just outside of Seattle in a place called Fife, the dealers in Seattle were fully booked and could not fit the service in at short notice.
Wednesday 22nd April
A cold start to the day but warmed up we are now in Fife for the bike service tomorrow then on to Seattle for a couple of days.
Thursday 23rd April
Spent most of the day at South Sound BMW/Ducati getting the second service done. We were there at 9 and were there till 2:30, they have done a great job bike is running much better now. The manager also gave us 2 free T shirts.
Whilst there waiting we also met and got to chat to loads of people. I also made use of some good free wifi and managed to have a chat with my Mum on face time.
When we left the heavens had opened so on with the waterproofs. We did not have far to go only about 15 miles which was good as the arms of my waterproofs are no longer water proof and the waterproofing spray I bought to try and fix my new boots did not work either, so a trip to a bike shop for a new jacket and boots will be coming up very soon me thinks.
Friday 24th April
We took a train in to downtown Seattle for a day of tourism. First stop was Pikes place farmers market, then we took a walk down to Post alley to view the bubble gum wall. This is something I had to see to believe it. People have been sticking their gum on the wall for years and it is now a tourist attraction.
From there we took a ride up 73 floors of a sky scraper to look out over Seattle. The views were pretty good despite the clouds, quite a novel way of earning money out of an empty floor of an office block charge you $12.5 to look out a window. From there we took the train and then the mono rail to have a wander around the EMP Museum.
We got back in time to jump on the bike and get me a new waterproof over jacket and Marcia a new pair of gloves, I really don't want to have to buy a new pair of boots as mine are just about worn in and comfy so if it rains I will stick some bags over my boots for now. Forecast is good for the next few days plus we will be heading south again so hopefully it will start warming up again.
Saturday 25th April
We took the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston today, it started off sunny but cold and shortly after getting off the ferry e had hail and rain we decided to stop off at port Angeles as there would be little chance of cheap lodgings anywhere else near to where we wanted to be. Shortly after checking in we took a ride to Marymere Falls
We were planning on going on to Sol Duc hot springs but decided we were running out of time and would spend another day here, then be able to spend more than just a few minutes at the springs.
We got back to the motel and took a walk into town for dinner, we were both fed up with supermarket salads and fast food and sought out proper food, we had a really good meal and also some good beer. Yes good beer in USA. They had a choice of 5 draught beers and 1 pear cider. So I tried all of them. Well a small glass of all of them,
Then had a pint of the one I liked the best, called Irish death. It was the colour of mud and very strong not overly fizzy either.
Sunday 26th April
We rode to Neah Bay to day bloody cold but a fantastic ride along the north coast of Puget Sound. It threatened rain all morning but thankfully just drizzled every now and then. We stopped at Neah Bay for a warm up and some grub before we tried to ride to the most northern point. The only road we could find was a dirt road they got very muddy and we were slipping and sliding it became so bad that we decided to abort before we got stranded. The pros and cons of dual sport bikes. Jack of all trades master of none. A set of knobbly tyres would of helped.
From there we rode to Sol Duc hot springs. Where we bathed in pools of varying temperatures, 59f, 95f, 100f and 106f jumping in the coldest and then the hottest was and then the coldest really got the blood pumping.
