We a good ride South on highway 1 to Los Angeles through Malibu beach.
We had booked 2 nights in a small town called Downey through AirBnB.com
Thursday 9th April
What a knackering day riding around LA. We went to visit Watts tower but could not get in, took a few pics through the fence then off to Venice beach and once we found somewhere free to park we took a walk along it. What a weird place, it was lined with people selling well crap is the best way to describe it. Plenty of people skate boarding etc.
from there we went to Hollywood boulevard, took a walk up and down some of it and checked out a few shops.
After that we rode up to the Griffith observatory, it was packed and no parking spaces so we stopped off took a pic of the Hollywood sign then headed back.
Friday 10th April
We had quite a long and hard ride to Blythe today from Los Angeles, strong cross winds and scorching hot 86°F
Sat 11th April
Heading for Williams today had a great ride back in to Arizona on the mountain roads. We got held up at the start of the mountain ride by a small heard of Harley's thankfully they pulled off to graze.
Later we took a shortcut on a dirt road through from Drake we would not of found it had it not been for the help of a local who stopped to chat to us while we were filling up, he had asked where we were heading and I told him we were looking for this particular trail and he said you have to drive past the cement factory and take a left at a security hut. We encountered an assortment of signs, such as Private Land, You enter at your own risk and unmaintained road etc and even though we had been given directions we were still not sure we should be on the road or not, Had it not been for the chat with the local we would of turned around. Glad we persevered as it was a great ride and turned out to be the right road.
After checking in to the motel we went in search of a laundrette, on the way we were asked by a passer by if we knew where to find the laundrette? We said we were looking for one as well so he gave us a lift. Just as well as it was a lot further than we were told by the lady at the motel. Laundry all done we finished the night off with a steak dinner.
Sunday 12th April
Up early this morning for a short ride to the Grand Canyon. At the entrance we were talked in to buying an annual pass for the national parks $80 instead of paying $25 dollars each time just to enter. Once in and parked what to do where to start, we decided due to the altitude we would not be doing any hiking and spent the day riding to the different view points.
