Oklahoma

Monday 11th May
Suns up at last, not that warm though but at least it's above freezing.
Good ride to Las Vegas New Mexico today sunny all the way.

Tuesday 12th May
It's gone again yes the bloody sun has disappeared. Our ride started off cold but warmed up as we descended in to Texas, we stopped off at the famous Cadillac Ranch.

Once settled in at a motel we went to The Big Texan for a steak. Could of been better. Beer was good though, Pecan Porter, very different. They have a 72oz steak meal that if you can eat the whole meal in under an hour you can have it for free the record is 3 meals in 20 minutes and is held by Molly Schuyler.

Wednesday 13th May
Lazy day next door to the motel was a museum of the American quarter horse so we paid it a visit then went for a coffee, I did bugger all for the rest of the day, Marcia had a swim and later we did our laundry in the motels laundry room.

Thursday 14th May
Sunny and warm today and we are completely out of the mountains now and the roads are flat and straight with strong cross winds, we had quite a long ride today from Amarillo to Oklahoma via the Palo Duro Canyon (not as impressive as the GC).

Friday 15th May
First thing we had to find a CycleGear shop to return my new water proof jacket as it was falling apart already, they were happy to refund me and I bought a different one to replace it. We had a very pleasant ride along part of the old Route 66 heading for a Cherokee town called Talequah hoping to get to watch a Rodeo. On route we stopped off at a small motorcycle memorabilia shop/museum not far out of Oklahoma City in Warwick, they have quite a large assortment of bikes on display, they had 2 bikes still in the original manufacturers crate, they had just removed the top and side panels so you could see the bikes inside, 1 a Triumph Bonneville the other a Hesketh.

The last 100 miles today we came across a large amount of road kill mainly armadillos and turtles, also a few snakes and dear, it seems like it is sport here in Oklahoma to run over anything that moves. Next door to the motel was a car/bike wash so After checking in I gave the bike a bit of a clean, not before time either. We have now clocked over 13000 miles.
The rodeo was pretty good watching some animals throw there tormentors in to the mud and then trample on them. Neither of us could understand the commentator but that did not matter, it's on again tomorrow and if we go again we know where to sit to get a better view of the activities. We are now on the edge of Tornado alley and thankfully will soon be out of it soon.

Saturday 16th May
We have been watching the weather and there is quite a risk of tornado today, which is fine as we are staying put today. We both slept in till 10 this morning. We have crossed 2 time zones in the past 2 weeks we have gone from 8 to 6 hours behind UK time, I don't think we have re adjusted as it's just to easy to stay in bed as we never have to be out before 11. Internet has been poor and intermittent at best for the last few days. But I have managed to finish and submit my visa extension. Just got to wait and see what happens.
We went back to the rodeo again this evening and sat in a much better place.
Tried to take some pics but it was very difficult the flood lights were not that bright.

The Cowboys including the ones in the audience are exactly as they are portrayed on the TV. Especially the sherif who was sitting near us every few minutes he would lean over the side and spit this brown liquid out, even the kids were sitting there spitting, one sitting next to us was constantly spitting through the gaps in the seats.
It's nearly 1 in the morning and we have a bit of storm starting out there hope it's over by the morning. I really should go to sleep but I'm not tired can't put the TV on to send me to sleep as the storm has knocked out the signal and the Internet. Think I will try reading.
