Ayutthaya

When we arrive in Ayutthaya, we already see some of the old temples along the way. We’ll wait until tomorrow to explore them because it’s late in the afternoon by now. In the ancient capital it’s easy to find cheap guesthouses, because they offer many rooms with a shared bathroom. In the evening we go to a small night market and wander along the many shops.

Four-In-A-Row

The next morning, we update our blog and when we’re ready with this, we visit the ancient temples. There’s a an entrance fee for some of the temples, but we don’t pay: you can see them easily from the outside. The temples are very similar of these in Bagan (Myanmar). However, the temples are situated in beautiful landscaped parks with many small bridges over small lakes; in Bagan there's nothing but sand. The temples in Ayutthaya are nice but can’t be compared with places as Bagan, Sukothai or Angkor Wat.

The Beauty of Ayutthaya

During our walk in the park we see a big monitor lizard, he looks a bit scary but we saw them before in Koh Phangan and we know they do no harm. We carefully come closer to take a picture.

"Don't be Scared", They Say

On the street we see a lot of tourists who prefer a cultural tour on the back of an elephant. It’s a bit funny to see an elephant using the crosswalk. Normally, we only see elephants in the zoo behind high security fences and here they just walk next to you on the street. We can’t help but halting for a moment every time they are passing.
