Candidasa

We still have to see several villages in Bali and the first is Amed. We arrive after a few hours and we start looking for a hotel. Although it’s quite expensive here, we do find a nice sea view bungalow for not too much money. Unfortunately, there is no pool, the hotel is located at the beach but it's not really ideal for swimming due to the volcanic sand. The village is mostly popular for divers. We decide to drive to Candidasa, where we hope to find a white beach. The road from Amed to Candidasa is one of the most beautiful drives on our trip. The road follows the coast and runs through the mountains, a great combination.

On the Way to Candidasa

In Candidasa, we notice very quickly that there is also a volcanic beach here. We find a resort that is not yet completely finished and we can get a basic sea view bungalow for a good price. It also has a nice pool, which we have all to ourselves being the only guests.

Our hotel in Candidasa

After all the volcanic beaches we drive to the white beach of Padang Bai, on the pier for the boat to Lombok. However, the beach is filled with fishing boats and doesn’t look very nice. There are some nice hotels, but it doesn’t seem like a nice place to stay. We drive on to Ubud, the religious centre of Bali. The village looks nice but it is very busy and in addition it seems quite expensive. We follow a small road and see a hotel in the middle of nowhere. We’re hoping that, because there are no tourists around, the price wouldn’t be to high but the opposite was true and while we are taking the bike, someone from the staff and the owner come to talk to us. The owner himself has a GS and he was so amazed that we have come this far. He invites us for a beer in the lobby and we of course say yes. He also treats us with a steak at his hotel.
