Some more Hiking on Koh Tao

Today we go to Koh Tao. Here we want to do the same as we did in Koh Phangan. This is a smaller island and will therefore take less time to walk around. After 1.5 hours on the boat we arrive and immediately begin our trip.

Arriving in Koh Tao

The road goes mainly over small paths which are built by the resorts located along the beaches. The path is completely paved so it goes smoothly. The first night we spend in Chalok Baan Kao. The next day we first make a small detour to a viewpoint and are treated with a lovely view.

The first Viewpont we see on Koh Tao

The rest of the day is really heavy: many steep roads with little shade. It’s so hard that we decide to skip a few beaches, especially when we can see them from the road.

Do We Need to Say More

We have two more viewpoints along the way, again offering beautiful views.
In the dark we find a bungalow on the rocks of Hin Wong Bay. In the morning it’s an amazing sight to see the sun rising in the bay over the sea.

Sunrise over Hin Wong Bay

Today starts difficult again. We climb for two hours to the last viewpoint on the island, called Mango Viewpoint. There is an entrance fee here, but once we are at the viewpoint we notice that we have seen this view before, from a better angle.

Mango Viewpoint

We start our descent to Mango Beach (no, you don’t see this from Mango Viewpoint). We arrive at a resort but the beach is still a few meters away, only accessible by kayak. They charge 50 per person, one way. We think we can make it if we go over the rocks and twenty minutes later, we are on Mango Beach. One of the nicest beaches on the island and the sea is full of colourful fish. Finally we can take a well-deserved dip in the ocean. Tired of the steep roads we prefer to take a longtailboat to the final beach, Sairee Beach, where we stay for two nights.

Our Longtailboat to Sairee Beach

Again, we find a beachfront bungalow for a good price. We go snorkelling and it’s really nice. This is the perfect opportunity to check if our helmet camera is as waterproof as they say. Here the video...

The next morning we walk three miles to the pier to take the boat back to Koh Phangan. Here we pick up Mickey and immediately leave for mainland. Now we can begin our journey through the north of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
