Waterfalls And Other Landscapes
After leaving Tad Lo it doesnt take long before we are driving on the Bolaven plateau. Actually, we dont even realize we are here, until we see it on the GPS. It soon becomes clear that we dont want to stay here, but there are a couple of waterfalls that should be worthwhile a visit.
The first one is Tad Yuang, a very high waterfall in a nice surrounding.
Tad Yuang
At this waterfall we see on the GPS that there should be a walking path here, that runs through the jungle to another waterfall close by, Tad Fane, the highest waterfall in Laos. We also see on the map that we dont have to pass the entrance which means we wouldnt have to pay. After an hour of hiking and some scrambling, we arrive at a river, which we follow downstream until we are hatched at the top of the waterfall: what an experience. We are at the point where the river falls down in the valley. We can see the water drop 120m under our feet, the feeling is indescribable. The view must be amazing from the other side as well because there are two falls like this here. We can barely see the other one from our point of view. The water falls in a steep valley, which looks more like a green canyon.

We go back to the bike and decide to leave the Bolaven plateau and to drive to Si Phan Don (4000 Islands). These are many small islands in the Mekong near the Cambodian border. On the way we pass Pakse and indeed its nothing special. The road from Pakse to Naka Sang, where we have to take the ferry to the islands, offers a different scenery because we find ourselves on plane grounds now.
There is no car ferry to the islands, although its possible to take your bike. There are no real roads on the islands anyway so we decide to spend the night in Naka Sang and leave Mickey in the hotel while we are in Si Phan Don.
