First Days In Laos

After a slow border crossing in Thailand we are finally driving in Laos. The first thing we notice is that Laos is much less developed than Thailand. Many villages consist only of wooden huts, there is little traffic and no supermarkets. The road is in a good condition, though. We had heard this wouldn’t be the case, but we do see that the smaller roads are in worse shape. Along with the pristine jungle it’s a nice setting to ride in. We stop in Vieng Phoukha to spend the night. We quickly find a bungalow on the river bank, for only 4 euro.

The next day we leave for Luang Namtha but on arrival we don’t like it too much and drive further to Muang Sing. This route is described on the internet as a must-do. The road isn’t that nice and the village itself is even worse than Luang Namtha.

During our Break, We see a Very Primitive School

We decide to go straight to Luang Prabang and on the way, we spend the night in Oudomxay, again not a pleasant town. In the morning, we leave early to make sure we reach Luang Prabang at a reasonable hour. On the way there, we have to drive in the rain, for the first time since our trip began, now already 7 months ago. Fortunately we quickly find shelter in a school.
