Si Phan Don
In the morning we walk towards the ferry. A longtailboat takes us to the island of Don Det. We dock in the city centre and decide to follow the riverbank. A little outside the village, we find a nice riverfront bungalow, overlooking the Mekong. We have riverview from our balcony and views over the rice fields from our window. The balcony also has two hammocks instead of the usual one. Chilling guaranteed.
Theres not really much to do on the island besides relaxing. We walk around the island, but it takes just a few hours.
Walking Around Don Det
After three days we go to another island, Don Khone, which is connected by a bridge to Don Det. This bridge dates back to colonial times.

At Don Khone we stay for five nights in a bungalow floating on the Mekong. Its Kevin's gift for Kitty's birthday. On Kitty's birthday Kevin hires a private boat with driver for six hours. We dock to have lunch, to visit a temple and to relax at a small beach along the riverbanks. By boat we see more of the islands in the Mekong.
With a Private Boat to a Beach
The next day we rent a bicycle and take a ride around the island. We stop at the Liphi Waterfall which is truly an impressive waterfall. We go to the beach and take a dive.

Then we drive to the viewpoint of the Irrawaddy Dolphins. We dont see any dolphin but its a nice spot to watch sunset over the Mekong and the islands.
There are some strange cows around, it seems like they are asking for some affection. They stay very close and try to lick us. One cow is pushing our bicycles with his head, really strange behaviour for cows.

The rest of our stay at Don Khone we just enjoy lazing in our floating bungalow.
Back in Naga Sang we want to withdraw money and get some dollars for the border crossing with Cambodia, the next day. Unfortunately both ATMs arent working and we cant find a place to get cash advance via our MasterCard. Only solution: back to Don Det, to ask for cash advance. After an hour we are back in Naga Sang, where we sleep in the same hotel we left Mickey behind.
