Penang Island

The 700km to Penang is mainly on the highway and goes smoothly. A couple of times we feel some raindrops but never enough to stop driving. In the early evening, we arrive at the toll bridge to Penang. From the bridge we get a nice view of the island.

We already booked a hotel via booking.com and we are pleased with our choice, it's a really nice room but a little far from everything though.
The next day we go to the Indonesian consulate to apply for our visas. We are there in the afternoon but they tell us that visa applications are only possible in the morning. Too bad, but we now go looking for the office of Mr Lim. We have an appointment the next day but we don’t want to start looking for the office then. Through the internet, we also found a mechanic where we want to prepare Mickey for our trip through Indonesia. He was recommended by many bikers but unfortunately, we are less happy with him and especially feel cheated by the high price.
The next day, we first go to Mr Lim and afterwards we go to the consulate. They tell us we can come back tomorrow to pick up our visa, wow that’s fast.
Today we celebrate our fourth anniversary, so today it’s time for a treat. After a nice lunch, we make a motorcycle ride around Penang and make a stop at a quiet beach, a snake temple and a waterfall. By nightfall we take a train to Penang Hill, where you have a beautiful view over the island. There is also a Hindu temple, a mosque and a church. After sunset, we enjoy the view over Penang by night. After the visit to Penang Hill we drive to “The Ship”, a restaurant famous for its steaks. We really enjoy our steaks and have a delicious banana split as dessert.

Mmmm

In the morning, at 9u30am we are back at the consulate to pick up our Indonesian visa and afterwards we head for Mr Lim’s office to put Mickey on the boat to Indonesia.
After Mickey is loaded, we go to our new hotel, closer to town and the airport. Here we wait two days before we take the plane to Indonesia. In the meanwhile, we work a bit on the blog and take a look at the Kek LoK Si temple, located close to our hotel, which in fact is a Buddhist temple complex. It’s really worth a visit and the entrance is free, except for the pagoda where you have to pay half a euro pp. For this price, you may visit another temple and also the pagoda, which offers a nice view over Georgetown.
