Phi Phi Islands
The ferry that should take us to Koh Phi Phi cant dock at Railay East. We must first take a longtailboat to deeper waters where we have to transfer to the ferry. On the way to Phi Phi, there are a lot of waves which causes the ferry to toss back and forth. Safely arrived in Phi Phi, we walk through the narrow streets of the main town, looking for a guest house. We quickly find a room where we spend the whole afternoon as the weather is bad.
Arrival at Phi Phi
The next morning the sun is shining so we start our island expedition. Like every time on the Thai islands, its beautiful to walk around on it. We walk along various small beaches combined with small parts on a small jungle path.
Island Expedition
We also want to arrange a tour to Phi Phi Leh, a distant island where you cant spend the night. Unfortunately, it is cloudy in the morning so we decide to wait until the next day. When the weather improves in the afternoon, we go on a hike to the famous view point. After countless of steps up, we arrive at the viewpoint and enjoy the beautiful sights. On the same mountain, theres also another view point, where we stop for a moment on the way down. We are suddenly chased by monkeys, and theyre not of the friendly kind: they make a kind of growl sound and run quickly towards us. Scram!
Phi Phi Viewpoint
The rest of the day we stay in bed, we seem to have eaten something wrong. When we wake up, we notice its raining but decide to make the tour anyway, hoping for the weather to improve.
We leave to Phi Phi Leh in the afternoon. The moment we are in the longtailboat, it starts to rain again and it keeps on doing so for a while. We are first taken to a small beach where many monkeys are living. We have already seen a lot of monkeys so we take a look from the boat at people feeding the monkeys. Then we finally set sail to Phi Phi Leh. First we stop at the lagoon, Ao Pileh where we get a chance to snorkel. We sail to Maya Bay where the movie 'The Beach' is shot. We have to swim to a climbing net and climb up to reach the entrance. We have to walk a few minutes to finally end up at Maya Bay, the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. Unfortunately, the boat doesnt wait for too long and its soon time to return.
Phi Phi Leh
The boat then takes us back to our island. Here we notice that the boat has brought us back 1.5 hours early! That means we could have stayed longer at Maya Bay, and we are not happy with this. We end our stay on Phi Phi with an all-you-can-eat barbecue.
