Cambodia Summary
We didnt expect too much of Cambodia, but we were pleasantly surprised. There is a nice atmosphere throughout the country. Also, the people were very friendly, even more than in Thailand, the Land of the Smile. The staffs in the hotels were generally spoken very helpful and interested in our story. People along the way were constantly greeting us with a smile.
Accommodations were very cheap and offered good value for money. The average price was about 5 euro. The highest amount we paid was 12 euro, but for that price we had a swimming pool and was including breakfast. In Thailand this is the average price of an accommodation, especially in the south.
The roads in Cambodia were not very good. The tarmac roads were okay but there arent that many. Most of the roads were dirt roads and in the rainy season these roads become slippery mud roads. For our overloaded bike with road tyres this was a huge problem. This has limited us to discover the more remote areas of the country. This was unfortunate, but we will come back for sure because Cambodia is one of our favourite countries so far.
Apparently Cambodians are not very fond of their currency. The Riel is quite stable, so we dont really understand why. Everywhere you go you will see the prices of the merchandise mentioned in dollars and also the ATMs give dollars. In the west of the country, closer to Thailand, prices are mentioned in baht. All very confusing, especially when you see the price in baht, pay in dollars and get change in riel. So start revise your math before you come here.
