Becoming Dairy Farmers?

55945km on the road

We meet Megan and Michael in Kerang, a town not far from their home. At their home, we are warmly welcomed by their friends and family and together we enjoy a delicious BBQ. After everyone has gone home, Megan shows us around their home and shows us our room. M&M show us the life on a farm and they teach us the trade of dairy farmer. They provide us with free accommodation and food, and in return we help them a bit on the farm, but most of the time we’re learning and enjoying ourselves. We are also quite fond of their dogs Bear and Tiley, and their cat Milo and the small wild cat. We even have a favourite cow, number 252, and we can say that she likes us too. She is waiting every day for us to enter the dairy, she will not go inside without a pet. We enjoy moving the cows from one paddock to another with the quad / buggy and we also learn how to drive a tractor.

Life on a Dairy Farm

M&M and their son Jake take us hunting for the first time in our lives. Megan drives the pickup, Michael holds the flashlight and Jake teaches us how to handle a gun. Kevin shoots a hare with his very first shot. At the end of the evening Kevin shot three hares.

We also go fishing in a creek in the Gunbower National Park. Here Kitty catches her first fish ever. For the rest we don’t catch too much but we have a nice evening and enjoy a delicious BBQ. We drive through the national park on the way home and see hundreds of kangaroos. It is the first time since we are in Australia that we can see them this good and we are very excited to see them jumping around.
