Pokhara

Today we leave early again. It’s about 450km drive to Pokhara but the road appears to be good so it seems doable. The first part goes smoothly with good, straight roads. The second part goes through the mountains and is just turn after turn which makes it impossible to make any speed, although there were some nice views.

Views from the Highway

Here, we’ve had our first accident.... with a goat! Fortunately we can evade it just in time but our side pannier did give him a serious head butt. Apparently we are not the only ones here with problems with goats on the road, because a little further we see a truck that had run over five goats. Guts were everywhere on the road. Then our goat was lucky because with a paracetamol or 3-4, he would have been better, we think.
A little further on the road we meet an Englishman, Ben, who bought a Royal Enfield in South-India and is now touring in Nepal. He also knocked out a goat. Together, we drive to Pokhara.
As you may already know from our planning, we must fly over Myanmar because it’s not allowed to enter the country with a foreign vehicle. Ben has been in contact with a German guide who is organising a tour through Myanmar, from India to Thailand. There is still a spot in the group for a few vehicles so we are going to try to join this group. If we succeed, we would be one of the first to do so. To be continued....
In Pokhara we are enjoying our first real break on this trip.

Sunset over Pokhara Lake

We hand over the bike to the local Honda dealer for an oil change and a complete clean-up, this for the price of twelve euros! But it turned out they did anything but a good job. There was a litre oil to short and the service stand was far from repaired. In Pokhara we enjoy the views over the lake, good food, happy hours and doing nothing.

Now we are getting ready for a trip to Jomsom, located in a large National Park. For this we need two permits per person, for a total of € 62.
