Canoa - Puerto Lopez

All is good in my travels. Since my last blog post, 02 Feb 14, I haven't been able to upload photos, I'm using Picasa and was not able to access my account for some reason. Anyway, today I had reliable internet and believe I have solved the issue.

Rode south out of Canoa to Puerto Lopez, a short ride 131 miles. The landscape changed drastically just a mile or south on Hwy E15, it went from jungle forest to a dry desert like climate. Lots of trees however instead of being broad leaf they were all small leaf and many had thorns.

Typical style house along the road:

Passing through a small seaside village there where many vendors that had small ovens next to the road. I stopped and tried one of the things they were baking. It was corn bread with cheese inside, very tasty!:

I was told these swallows roost here every night. As you can see the wires below the top five strands of birds is thick with droppings.

From what little I've experienced of Ecuador the people are very open and friendly. Often when I stop along the road someone driving by will signal gesturing if everything is ok. A few have stopped to ask if I need help and then the questions of what I'm doing come out. I'm often told they have seen other moto travelers and can only dream of doing such an adventure.

Took a trip out to the, Isla de Plata, the poor mans Galapagose. It was a nice day however the basic deal is, you pay $41 to take an hour boat ride to a desert island to see a blue footed boobie. I did see some green seas turtles and the snorkeling is good.

The blue feet are an important attractant to mating females. The older the birds get the blue color fades so the females tend to mate with the younger males more often, cougars. The females are larger than the males and if I understood correctly have larger pupils. Pupil size is used to tell the sex.
