Onward to Tanzania '15

December 13, 2015:
Crossed into Tanzania. In the northern part of Zambia and then after crossing into Tanzania I started seeing a lot of big trucks that had gone off the road. I was told it happens mostly at night, drivers are tired and often have been drinking.

Lots of, Lay By's for the drivers along this route;

I rode as far as Mbeya and then hit heavy rains. I found a place in town that had secure parking and settled in. Turned out, the secure parking garage was also the entertainment / night club area. First off was a soccer match and then a live band played into the early hours. I was told everyone would respect the motorcycle, it would be fine. It was! The moto was parked next to one of the cooking areas, to the left was the bar, stage and seating area for a hundred or more.

I took this photo just before the soccer match began. The place was packed full ten minutes later.

December 14, 2015:
Was on the trail early, I was told to expect rain by mid afternoon and was hoping to make it to Iringa before then. A few miles out of Mbeya I saw my first truck incident of the day.

It wasn't long before I saw another nights victim. I don't know how the driver managed to get this rig down there. It was like it had be airlifted into place.

The rural areas in this part of Tanzania are quite nice, well kept and clean.

Fred Flintstone would be proud of this rig.

There were a couple men on the other side guarding it. Any accident vehicle left unattended will be picked clean.

Even though there's power lines, most rural house's don't have electricity.

Forty miles from Iringa I hit a rain storm. I managed to get most of the moto under a tin awning that was part of a small shop.

An hour later the rain passed and a lady who was waiting under another piece of tin came over to open the shop. She was the owner and was going to open the shop before the rain came but allowed me to get out of the rain, blocking the shop door. She had patiently waited across the street instead of having me move the moto. She was even quite happy in allowing me to take her photo.

December 16, 2015:
Spent an extra day in Iringa due to rain. Not much going on there, even less when it's raining. However, the 16th was a beautiful day and it was a great ride to Dar Es Salaam along the A7. The section from Iringa to Morogoro is quite nice, winding mountain road that goes through the Mikumi NP.

I didn't get far out of Iringa before I saw my first incident from the previous night. another MAERSK hauler over the bank. The white spot you see in the river looked to be part of the cab.

A bit further up the road I saw this sign. It's most likely just a grammar error however, safety doesn't seem to be a priority. When I stopped to take the photo a woman started yelling and then some guy in a blue uniform came out of the building and he was some pissed off. I waited for him to get a few meters from me and then waved as I rode away. Oh, he was mad.

One last one. Three guys were pumping petrol from the truck in the ditch. The pump was powered by an attached internal combustion engine, two meters from the pump was an open fire they had started in order to make coals to cook lunch. SAFETY IS PROHIBITED.
