Santa Catalina July 24, 2013

The ride from Boguete to Santa Catalina was really nice. Great ride through rural farm country and small villages. Lots of rivers in this area so everything is very green. Sona was a bit dirty and seemed like a place where people go to get things they can't find in the villages. Didn't see much of interest so I got gas and headed for Santa Catalina.

Song of the day: She Drives me Crazy, Fine Young Cannibals

Santa Catalina is a small beach village with some surfing but it looks more like a diving destination. The island of Coiba seems to be the big attractions. It's the low season so there isn't much going on and it's a bit dirty. A few old beach bums looking for hand outs and a lot of young guys with nothing to do. People seem friendly enough but I'm not getting the feeling of staying more than one night.
A storm came in after sunset, heavy rain, lightning and lots of thunder. Lighting knocked out the power and then put on a fantastic light display over the ocean. There's a small restaurant bar on the beach and sat there and watched the show with a couple people I had met in Boquete.

My hotel in Santa Catalina, very basic room but it had AC:
