Rwanda Jan 06-08, 2016

January 06, 2016:
The first night in Rwanda I stayed in the capital city of Kigali and then the next morning rode to the village of Kamembe, at the southern end of Lake Kivu. The roads are good and the country is all hills and mountains so it makes for great riding. One thing that really stands out is how clean and well kept the country is. I was told that littering is illegal and that plastic bags are not allowed in the country. It's really impressive as to how clean it is.
The weather was a bit overcast and there was some light rain so I stayed in Kamembe another day.

January 08, 2016:
Got a break in the weather and decided to ride to Gisenyi at the north end of the lake.

Just outside the village of Kibuye I hit the gravel section, it was slow going for most of the 55 miles from Kibuye to Gisenyi, five hours including stops.

Met this guy, Marcin, from Poland riding a rented Honda 250 heading in the opposite direction. He's doing a three week ride through Uganda and Rwanda, traveling very light, tank bag and a day pack. He's got a guest house in Poland, I will most likely see him again in a few months.

After visiting with Marcin I rode about two hundred meters and got a puncture in my rear tire. A piece of wire, it made three holes, all right next to each other. Was a bit concerned if I was going to get them plugged because they were so close together ,however the plugs worked. The rear tire now has four holes and five plugs in it. While in Zambia, 2,500 miles earlier, a piece of bone went through creating a hole that required two worm plugs to fill. I was going to change out the tire however it's holding air and I'm going with it.

If a piece of land can be cultivated, it's planted with some sort of crop. Lots of corn, bananas and tea plantations.

I got the impression this was some sort of shopping center. A couple guys got a bit upset with me for taking the photo.
