Kicking around Colombia

Departed Pamplona on the 6th and rode to Medellin. It's a nice 325 mile ride through two mountain ranges however there was rain, fog and holiday traffic so it took all day. I did get a break in weather just before descending into Bucaramanga.

Stayed in Medellin for five days getting the moto serviced then headed east towards Bogota. Stopped to warm up and have a late breakfast at a mountain pass.

Just east of Doradal is Hacienda Napoles, the property belonged to Pablo Escobar and was where he built a Jurassic theme park and zoo. The Colombian government owns it now, it's still a theme park and there are a few animals left on the property. I was told there are some hippos living in the ponds. I didn't enter the park, just took a photo of the maximum security prison the government built on the property. If I understood correctly, tourists can visit the prison.

Zipaquira is were the famous Salt Cathedral, it was built inside a salt mine that dates back to the Muisca period. It was really quite amazing due to the size and scope of work it took to create the cathedral. I was told there are more than two kilometers of tunnels.

There are two of these tourist trains to shuttle people from town to the Cathedral. I took this photo for Bobby Daniels, enjoy. There is also an old steam engine train that still runs from Bogota to Zipaquira on weekends and holidays. I had to stop for it on the way to Zipaquira however I didn't have time to get a photo.
