North on Ruta 3 Argentina
Country
December 06, 2017:
Departed Rio Gallegos with crazy wind blowing from the west. Along the way I passed a rider from Germany, Tobias, riding a KTM 690 that I had previously met in Goernador Gregores along Ruta 40.
Not the best of conditions to stop and have a chat so it was a head nod and I was on my way.
I stopped for lunch in Comandante Luis Piedra Buena and took an extended break. There’s no reindeer in the Southern Hemisphere so Santa Clause uses guanacos.
I don’t know why they constructed a permanent statue though.
Song of the Day: Forever Young, Rod Stewart (heard this during lunch)
I decided to ride as far as Puerto San Juan and look for a place to stay. Not a long ride, 227 miles, but a very tiring one. Did I mention the wind? Once I got to Puerto Luis I got settled in and then rode to a market for some
food and beer. On the way back I met Tobias riding into town. A short time later an Argentine rider, Claudio, showed up riding a Honda, heading south.
Tobias was having some wind issues due to the lack of a windscreen so he improvised with a plastic bottle. German engineering at it's best!
December 07, 2017:
Spent the next few days riding north on Ruta 3 with Tobias.
Sea Lion colony near Caleta Olivia
Supposedly the world largest dinasour fossil was discovered just north of Trelew. This is what it would have looked like.
Megellin penguin, a small friend and elephant seals, Peninsula Valdez
With the females just have given birth and taking care of the young, the big males have left. They'll be back when the females are feeling frisky again.
