December 12, 2014, Update

December 08, 2014:
Got an early start on the days ride heading north however the wind didn't take long to start up again. It wasn't to bad but I was getting tired of fighting it. It wasn't raining and the temperature was comfortable so all and all it was a nice ride to Esquel.

There's two types of shrines that are common along the roads here, they both have something to do with traveling and travelers.

Departed Esquel for Bariloche and the wind was at it again, I truly think it's pissed off at me for some reason. It was 61F but the wind coming down of the Andes was cold.

It blows so strong it removes the sign decals:

Along the way to Chos Malal. The wind finally gave it a rest and it was quite a nice ride day. Felt good to be able run a line and look around.

I wouldn't do it. I've spoken to a few bike riders and they've all told me it's miserable on a bicycle in these winds. My, tough it out, hat is off to them.

Arrived in San Rafael and stayed on a farm owned by a couple from the UK, John & Annette. They have walnut and plum tress along with a vineyard and exchange work for room and board. They mostly take in wayward moto travelers, they completed a RTW in the early 2000's. I spent two weeks there, it was a good time, lots of laughs, good food and a few drinks!

Spent a couple days in Mendoza and then rode to San Juan to meet the Dakar. The days finish for the motos and quads was in Difunta Correa 40 miles east of San Juan.

It was 105F and these guys were tearing it up.

Some of the quad riders were good about letting people sit on their machines. Three fuel tanks on four wheels.

Getting out into the desert where they riders were posed more of a logistic problem that I had thought. I caught up with the riders once they got back on the highway and rode along with them for a couple hours to Chilecito.

Couldn't find a place to stay with in 50 miles of Chilecito, to damn hot for camping, so I rode to La Rioja and spent the night.
