Turkey to Georgia
July 01, 2016:
Departed MotoCamp Bulgaria and headed for the Turkish border. Checking out of Bulgaria was quick and painless however I believe I might have been the first person riding a motorcycle ever cross into Turkey. At first things were going smooth and then it turned into a long process of going to different offices and getting something stamped. I was instructed to depart twice only to be turned back to see another customs agent. Finally, a guy searched my panniers and then entered my plate number in a tablet, he then assured me I would be allowed to depart, I was clear. Everyone was decent with me, it was just a bit confusing and very hot.
Once in Turkey I rode to the Semizkum Mocamp near Silivri, a camp site on the Sea of Marmara, and got a small cabin for the night. It was late, I was hot, tired and hungry. Ramdan was going on and the place was quite busy, one of the few places that beers is available. I was surprised at this because of ramada. Very nice place.

Spent the next two days just riding, lots of traffic due to ramadan ending on July 5 and the following Eid holiday. Arrived in Erzincan in the evening of July 03 and got a place to stay at a truck stop. Inexpensive, clean and food. I was quite impressed with the landscape of Turkey, much of it reminded me of Montana.

The days plan, ride north up the D915 to the town of, Of and then up the coast to Batumi, Georgia. It was the, Fourth of July and I wanted to have a couple beers and celebrate a little.

The D915 is supposedly one of the most dangerous roads in the world. Once I reached some of the more challenging parts the weather changed and I was clouded in. The road was a bit challenging in some parts, very narrow with severe drop offs but it was good. I didn't get to see much though, visibility through the nice steep sections was less than 100 meters. It was a bit muddy and there had been some small rock slides. I'm sure it would be an amazing ride in clear weather.

Once I dropped out of the moutons things cleared up and it was hot again. Stopped in Of for fuel and food and made the short run to the Georgia border, 82 miles.
