Saint Georges to Macapa

24 November 2013:
My original plan was to go to French Guiana see the prisons and then head back to Colombia. I decided to keep riding to Macapa Brazil and then take a boat up the Amazon to Manaus. I didn't want to ride the Hell road again and taking a boat up the Amazon was high up on the bucket list. Allen had made the run before and told me it's a good ride. Sounded more fun than turning around.
I rode to Saint Georges, Sunday, and once there started asking about getting across the Oiapoque River with the moto. There wasn't many people around and no one really seemed to care what I was doing or needed. It was pretty warm out so I decided to get a room and then find a way to get across and where customs is located. I finally met a couple guys and I managed to figure out there is no ferry, at least for a few weeks, and I needed to put the moto in a small taxi boat to cross the river. It was getting dark so we arranged to meet in the morning and go across. There is no French customs office in St Georges so getting my passport stamped out was not possible, very loose border. On the Brazil side I was told to go to the Federal Police office and they would stamp me into Brazil.

St. Georges on a Sunday: Not much going on, the only thing open was a hotel & restaurant in the town center.

Met the boat guys at 07:00 and we loaded up and went across. It's about a 15 minute boat ride and things went very smooth. I had to wait around for the Federal Police office to open at 08:00 and then I was on my way to Macapa.

There is newly built bridge, a few years, however it's not open for use. I was told that there are some issues between Brazil and France, mostly concerning border security. Crazy

I had to wait around for the Federal Police office to open at 08:00 and then I was on my way to Macapa. It was good road all the way to Macapa, 363 miles with only 73 miles of dirt just south of Oiapoque but it was good road. I was told by many people though that when the rains start, it would be very difficult or impassible with my moto. It was a really nice ride along the dirt section.

I arrived in Macapa and decided to get a place to stay, I had the coordinates of a hotel with parking I got off the HUBB so it didn't take long to get settled. Allen in Kourou had told me that I would need to go to Santana to catch a boat to Manaus via Santarem and planned on checking into in the morning.

Great riding day!
