Uganda to Kenya

February 04, 2016:
While in Masindi I was able to see some chimpanzees that weren't living in a National Park and that don't encounter tourists on a daily bases. One of the hotel staff set up an afternoon tour that took us out to some sugar cane fields that had patches of jungle amongst them. The chimps like the sugar cane and move from one section of jungle to another depending on which filed of sugar cane is ripe. Once we got to the area a local field worker told the guide where the animals were, less than a ten minute walk. The chimps are accustomed to seeing and hearing field workers however they seldom see a human up close.

Chimps live in family groups and are very vocal. Just like humans families there's always a few arguing, kids fighting, some playing and mothers tending to babies. Lots of noise and to an outsider it seems crazy.
This guy had found a secluded spot to chew on his sugar cane in peace.

A few of them were just as curious about me as I was them.

The chimps sometimes sit in the open space between the sugar cane and jungle and chew on the cane. Just like humans, they peel the husk off with their teeth and chew on the inner pulp to extract the juice, then spitting out the pulp.

It doesn't take long to realize they're our closet relative, amazing.

One of the girls from the hotel took me out to visit her village and meet some of the kids in her family. While there we did a short hike to a store for some drinks.

This little fella didn't talk much but he was a good listener. I told him a couple stories and he seemed pretty happy even though I don't think he understood them.

Time for me to get something to drink:

These girls were across the road from the bar and were dancing to some music coming from one of the buildings. They weren't shy about showing me their moves.

Rode from Masindi to Jinja, Jinja is located on Lake Victoria and is where the River Nile starts.

It always intrigues me in how far someone will travel to stare at a phone.

February 07, 2016:
Crossed into Kenya and a spent the fist night in Nakuru then onto Nairobi to have some maintenance done on the moto. I finally changed out the rear tire as well, five punctures and seven plugs.

Rode from Meru to Marsabit and back. I'd never been above the Samburu NR and wanted to see some of the Kaisut Desert. The road is good, paved or good dirt, except for a twenty mile (give or take a few) section south of Masabit which is rough and extremely dusty. It was a long day but a nice run.

Lots of camels:
